VOLUNTEER
The Ring is a non-profit organization, and as such relies on the engagement and the commitment of volunteers to assist in its operation. Occasionally you will see requests for help in preparing the theater for productions, with load-ins and strikes of incoming and outgoing shows, tech work, or administrative tasks.
However, with almost 200 performances every Season,
our greatest need by far is to keep building our
FRONT OF HOUSE TEAM!
What are the main responsibilities?
- Ensuring that the house - lobby, restrooms and theatre - are in neat conditions, setting up concessions and check-in stations.
- Liaising with the Stage Manager to open the house and start the show.
- Welcoming and assisting patrons, including check-in and ticket sales via the online ticketing platform.
- Accounting for cash sales.
- Ensuring the house is left in neat conditions at the end of the show.
How long is a typical shift?
It depends on the duration of the show. We ask volunteers to come at least one hour before the show starts and stay until all patrons have left. A good average is 2.5 / 4 hours.
How many shifts do I need to commit to?
You can sign up for as many or as few shifts as you want and can.
A good average is one shift per production so that you can watch as many shows as possible, but that's not a rule!
(Although we have noticed that if volunteers come too rarely they tend to forget what needs to be done :))
We also ask that - once you sign up for a shift - you let us know as soon as possible if you can no longer make it so that we can find a substitute.
Will I be alone during the shift?
We try to have 2 people for each shift, ideally a more experienced volunteer together with a newer volunteer.
But sometimes that is not possible so - once you feel comfortable - you might be asked to cover a shift by yourself.
What type of skills or personality traits are required?
- Kindness and good communication skills. We want our patrons to have a good time and be treated warmly (sometimes patience is required too!)
- Ability to stand for at least 1 hour and move around enough to accomplish the above responsibilities.
- Comfortable with doing some minor cleaning and tidying up.
- Basic familiarity with the internet and technology (our ticketing platform is quite intuitive and we will train you on that!)
What do I get out of it?
- You get to see shows for free
- You get to support our theatre, and network with the artists and audience members. You become integral part of the Ring community!
- If the lack of payment is an obstacle for you, please let us know and we could identify at least a small reimbursement for gas.
For further info or if you are interested in volunteering please don't hesitate to contact Customer Relations Manager Michaela. We are always excited to meet and train new team members!
