by Elaine Murphy
In this comedy, set in contemporary Dublin, three generations of women share a year of their lives through interconnected monologues. Amber, a binge-partying teen, has some unexpected life changes to face. Her mother, Lorraine, is following her counselor’s orders to do one nice thing a week by enrolling in salsa classes. Kay, Lorraine’s mother, is taking care of her ailing husband, Gem, and bemoaning a lack of intimacy and an “itch.” Grandmother, mother, and daughter confirm not only the ties that bind them but also their capacity for the pursuit and consequences of sexual delight. This first play by Elaine Murphy won the Carol Tambor Best of Edinburgh Award at the 2009 Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
